Locally Owned — U.S. Virgin Islands
We're a locally owned water feature design and installation company serving St. Thomas and St. John—built on the belief that outdoor spaces should feel as natural as the landscape around them.
Our Philosophy
At VI Ponds & Fountains, every project begins with a simple idea—work with nature, not against it. The Caribbean landscape is one of the most beautiful on earth, and our job is to add water features that enhance it rather than impose on it.
Using the proven ecosystem approach developed by Aquascape-style systems, we create water features that function as living systems. Water, rock, gravel, and natural biological processes work together to create clarity, movement, and balance—without relying on chemicals or constant mechanical intervention.
We've spent years studying how water moves through the hillsides and valleys of St. Thomas and St. John. That knowledge informs every boulder we place, every plant we select, and every pump we size. The result is a space that feels organic, established, and completely at home in its surroundings.
We work with homeowners, estate managers, resort developers, and commercial property owners—any project where water can make a space remarkable.

Each water feature we build is designed as a complete ecosystem where every element has a purpose. Water is circulated, filtered through natural biological processes, and balanced through rock, gravel, and aquatic interaction. Nothing is there by accident.
Beneficial bacteria colonize the gravel substrate and biological filters, processing waste and maintaining water clarity. Aquatic plants absorb nutrients directly from the water column, starving out algae at the source. A surface skimmer continuously removes debris before it can decompose and feed the next generation of algae.
When all of these elements are properly sized and balanced, the system largely maintains itself. That's not a marketing claim—it's how nature works. Our job is to replicate those conditions precisely enough that the biology does the heavy lifting so you don't have to.
Building water features on St. Thomas and St. John is not the same as building them on the mainland. The year-round tropical heat accelerates biological activity in ways that affect filtration sizing. The intense Caribbean sun degrades materials that would last decades in temperate climates. Hurricane-season rainfall tests drainage and structural integrity in ways mainland contractors simply don't encounter.
We've built here long enough to know what works. We choose plant species that thrive in our heat. We oversize filtration for warm-water conditions. We anchor stonework to handle wind loading. We design drainage for the downpours, not the drizzle.
Every detail of our builds is calibrated for where you actually live. That's the difference between a water feature that thrives and one that struggles.
Three core services, each built on the same ecosystem principles and attention to craft.
